Pivotal Laboratories Acquired by ACM
16 March 2009
York-based Pivotal Laboratories, which provides analytical services to the pharmaceutical and biotech industies, providing testing on human subjects in a wide variety of medical disciplines, has been acquired by ACM, a North American clinical laboratory.
The acquisition by ACM has enabled Pivotal's investor, MVM Private Equity, to exit its investment, profitably. While no figures have been provided it is believed that NVM received an initial return of 2.2 times its investment, with further upside expected. NVM invested in Pivotal in mid-2005 to fund a management buy out.
Pivotal had formed an alliance in 2006 with ACM, that enabled it to market its service globally to international pharmaceutical companies. This has seen Pivotal grow from its establishment in 1999 to a company that now employs 38 staff at its laboratory in York, with a customer base including some of the top pharmateucital and biotech in more than 60 countries around the world.
Analysis undertaken by Pivotal is able to detect substances found in blood, body fluids and tissues to detect a wide range of diseases, and to monitor ongoing treatment results.
